Back Pain

Treat the Pain and Promote Healing without Negative Side Effects

The 31 million Americans who suffer from chronic back pain may be able to get relief from their pain through acupuncture. Acupuncture is one of the most time-tested treatments known to mankind. If the value of a treatment were based on the number of centuries millions of people have had their pain relieved, then acupuncture would be the #1 treatment in terms of effectiveness.

  1. Proven Safety
  2. Highly Effective
  3. No Negative Side Effects
  4. Promotes Healing
  5. Longer Lasting Results

Evidence for Effectiveness

In November 1997, the National Institute of Health published a consensus statement declaring there is, in fact, sufficient evidence to support the use of acupuncture for many conditions. Promising results emerged regarding the efficacy of acupuncture for treating lower back pain. While there is no definitive way to resolve lower back pain, the use of acupuncture to treat this condition has increased dramatically in the past few decades, based to a large extent on placebo-controlled studies that validate it's effectiveness for pain relief. The results of a recent study published in the Clinical Journal of Pain provide further evidence that acupuncture is a safe and effective procedure for lower-back pain, and that it can maintain positive outcomes for periods of six months or longer without producing the negative side-effects that often accompany more traditional pain remedies. Acupuncture not only reduces pain, it also promotes the healing process by bringing a stronger flow of blood and energy to the affected area. Because acupuncture can affect the release of endorphins in the brain, people often find that acupuncture treatments reduce stress and produce a feeling of well-being, in addition to controlling their pain.

Longer Lasting Relief Can Be Yours

At Austin Family Acupuncture, several modalities for treating lower back pain are used. The most common modality, acupuncture, is highly effective for both acute and chronic lower back pain. Electro-stimulation can be utilized to boost the effectiveness of the treatment. Moxabustion, a Traditional Chinese Medical practice, can also be prescribed to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment. The modalities utilized depend on the assessment of each individual patient.

Backaches are a common pathology among people everywhere and thanks to the westward expansion of acupuncture; people everywhere now benefit from the age-old medical wisdom of the Orient.
